Developing an Asian Persona AMA - Are you into medieval history, but also wuxia, kdramas and/or anime? Did you know that there is a way to enjoy it all in the SCA? Asian personas can be really fun and interesting, but can be a lot of work. Come talk to Lord Choi Minyeong and Wolbi-manim about the joys and difficulties of this kind of persona. The SCA as a Third Place - What turns a hobby group into a true home away from home? Sociologist Ray Oldenburg coined the term "Third Place" to describe vital social spaces existing beyond home (first place) and work (second place)—spaces built on community, equality, and shared connection. In this class, we will explore how the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) functions as a unique Third Place where people from all walks of life can find connection, dignity, and belonging.   Grounded in sociological theory and Thomas Friedman’s concept of "Home," this interactive presentation examines how leveling the playing field through historical personas, shared learning, and accessible physical and virtual spaces fosters an inclusive environment.
